What Is Match Point, Set Point, and Game Point?
They’re exactly what they sound like: points that can end a game, a set, or the match.
When a player reaches one of these, winning the next point means closing the door.
1. How It Works
Game point = win this point, win the game
Set point = win this point, win the set
Match point = win this point, win the whole match
A player can have multiple chances — miss one, and the point resets.
2. Why It Matters
Every tennis match builds toward these moments. Match point, especially, carries huge weight — the pressure, the nerves, the crowd holding its breath.
👂 Where You’ll Hear It
“She saved two match points en route to winning the third set.”
Translation: She was one point from losing — twice — and still came back to win.
“He’s got set point at 6–5.”
Translation: If he wins this next point, he takes the set.
